Role: This role requires a specialist pharmaceutical/life sciences Senior Mechanical Engineer, to spearhead energy efficiency projects and be the go-to person for design advice and lead projects. As the industry experiences greater regulations on the manufacturing process, the team are seeking an individual to bring experience on how to deliver and manage technical projects to support the growth of the business. The main responsibilities in this role will be to be ensure high quality delivery of energy-focused global pharmaceutical and life sciences HVAC engineering solutions, while also guiding others to ensure that design deliverables meet consistent standards and best practice. There will not be any direct line management responsibility for this role. The person in this role will act as a subject matter expert guiding the engineering team on process, quality and technical delivery. They also work closely with the senior leadership and sales teams growing the business and leading on consultative technical discussions with both new and existing client Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Delivery (80% of the role): Most of the time will be working in the capacity of a consultant both externally and internally, influencing design and recommendations, representing best practice and promoting technical excellence in HVAC design and build within the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry and within the team.

  • Understanding client needs, formulating innovative solutions, and presenting technical information logically and compellingly.
  • Sharing demonstrable knowledge (such as recent used/test cases) both on build and design on a regular basis with the team.
  • Developing bespoke solutions and innovative designs to meet client needs aligning with cutting-edge technical approaches.
  • Facilitating & providing technical expertise on Energy Kaizen Leadership and HVAC systems.
  • Reporting on engineering KPIs by reviewing the data collection phases and quality of the technical work.
  • Applying expertise in engineering complex GMP compliant HVAC systems for building services.
  • Leading stakeholder discussions with clients on the technical delivery and progress.
  • Working on client site to facilitate projects (both nationally and internationally).
  • Working closely with the Engineering Manager to develop the technical expertise.
  • Responsible for adoption of technical best practice and adoption by the engineering team to maintain consistency and quality of deliverables
  • Supporting the Business's ISO 9001 status for consistent quality delivery.

  Business Operations (10% of the role):

  • Working closely and collaborating with the senior leadership team, operations team, and sales team to ensure effective operations to support current and future client engagements, by helping to develop project resources.
  • Participating in weekly engineering team management meetings and taking responsibility for delivering agreed actions and reporting.
  • Supporting business risk management through identification and mitigation activities.
  • Assisting in a culture of innovation and excellence and maintaining global subject matter expert status.

  Supporting Business Growth (10% of the role):

  • Collaborating with the senior leadership team, and wider teams to implement short and long-term plans, focusing on value propositions.
  • Support of subject matter expert status by maintaining industry leading knowledge related to the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry.

• Senior Mechanical Engineer

  Role: The Senior Mechanical Engineer will excel in engineering design and be comfortable leading projects from inception to completion, working with minimal supervision. They will also assist in planning and managing an appropriate resource to deliver projects. They will prepare conceptual designs of HVAC systems, pipe work systems, plant sizing and selection and calculations and assist with the preparation of the client brief. The role also requires that they are confident giving technical presentations to the professional team as well as managing site coordination meetings with contractors. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work across multiple projects at any one time, and will prioritise work to ensure timely delivery. In addition, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with the directors to contribute to the development of improved standards and procedures within the company.   Responsibilities: Design

  • Design safe, economical and reliable mechanical systems to meet the contractual scope of work and comply with the applicable standards and regulations.
  • Develop the preparation of clear and concise drawings, specifications and product schedules to define mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate mechanical design with other disciplines (e.g. architectural, structural, electrical) to minimise conflicts and avoid costly revisions.
  • Check tender submissions, drawings and technical submittals to ensure quality of products and equipment are in accordance with design.
  • Undertake site visits and monitor progress against the design.
  • Assist subcontractors to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications and resolve problems during construction.

  Management

  • Work well within the team and manages medium-sized projects internally and externally in respect of deliverables, resources and financials.
  • Assist with the review of appointment documents and scopes of service.
  • Set targets and monitor workload against deliverables.
  • Report any feedback or issues concerning either projects or team to the directors.
  • Demonstrate a good level of oral and written communication (in particular well developed report writing skills) setting the highest standards of communication both internally and externally.
  • Ensure compliance with company Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Build relationships and contacts with potential sources of new work, maintain existing relationships.
  • Confidently assist with the delivery of presentations and pitches.

  Health & Safety

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the CDM Regulations, specifically the Designers requirements.
  • Ensure completion of all risk assessment documentation in a timely manner.
  • Report all accidents/incidents or near misses.
  • Ensure adherence to all H&S requirements at all times.
  • Use and maintain appropriate PPE.
  • Demonstrate leadership in all aspects of Health & Safety.

  Training & HR Management

  • Coordinate junior staff internally, providing mentoring and leadership and help to identify opportunities for junior staff to develop.
  • Provide constructive feedback to junior staff.
  • Promote team morale and encourage cooperation, collaboration and team working.

  Technical

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of BSRIA BG6 and RIBA stages, Part L, BREEAM and renewable technologies.
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of other MEP engineering disciplines, other than your own, sufficient to understand their impact in the overall design, and converse at a high level.
  • Ensure proficiency in the use of the following systems; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Hevacomp or IES, Outlook.
  • Develop ability to use AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Attained or working towards Chartered status.
  • Undertake Continual Professional Development by reading technical journals, attending relevant IEE/CIBSE technical seminars from time to time and attending in house seminars aimed at increasing technical and operational knowledge.

  Financial

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project costing principles and control changes during project development.
  • Utilise strong financial management skills to negotiate additional fees with the client that may be due.
  • Forecast resourcing via Union Square management database.
  • Assist with preparation of fee proposals.
  • Maintain required level of utilisation and complete timesheet on a weekly basis.
  • Assist directors and principals to ensure that projects are invoiced promptly, and assist with debt collection.

  Project Interface

  • Represent the company at design team and client meetings with confidence.
  • Liaise with clients and others to obtain technical and operational information relating to the projects.
  • Maintain a project overview at all times, able to provide updates on project statusto client and others whenever required.

  An independent specialist MEP engineering consultancy established in 2005.   Join a dynamic team of c30 experienced engineers and designers providing innovative and sustainable solutions for a range of projects across various sectors, in the UK and Internationally. The firm is independently owned by the Directors and employees, all based together in one office, supporting each other without corporate interference or distractions irrelevant to project delivery.  They can provide technical support when needed but otherwise trust employees to independently manage their workload. Approximately two thirds of their turnover is derived from overseas projects, having undertaken projects in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Russia, Vietnam, Germany, UAE, Angola and the Bahamas.  Their key sectors are commercial offices, mixed use developments, luxury hotels, concert halls, theatres and airports. In your role as the Mechanical Engineer, you will be expected to own, manage, and deliver electrical projects.
