The Role: As a Public Health Engineer, you will work within various market sectors, with a focus of high performing buildings such as hospitals, commercial buildings, laboratories, airports, and data centres. Your contribution will be expected in all phases of the project including feasibility, design, execution, and in-use. You will be expected to handle multiple projects concurrently. Reporting to directly to the Directors of these sectors, you will be responsible for designing Public Health Services across every stage of the project lifecycle, from the initial brief through to design, commissioning, and final sign off. You will participate in design teams to provide innovative engineering solutions. As a design team member, you will hold regular meetings to inform and advise clients. This will require excellent interpersonal and conversational skills, making the complex simple. Keeping up with new developments in your field of expertise is a must for this role. If there is insufficient knowledge or new developments arise, it is expected that you will gain knowledge by research, contacts with suppliers, etc. As an international firm, their teams and clients are based in the UK and around the world. Your role will see you providing Public Health systems design and consultancy within the UK engineering team, and to UK-based clients, but also collaborating as part of the firm-wide consultancy team that extends throughout their national office network, and potentially working with international clients on overseas projects. Requirements: You should be able to produce designs, drawings, schematics, diagrams, project survey, design reports and specifications and risk assessments for:

  • Medical Gases (Argon, Compressed Air, Helium, CO2, O2 and others), Manifold Gas Design
  • Laboratories water (different grades and applications)
  • Gas distribution systems include toxic, inert and flammable gas manifold distribution systems and specialist gas detection systems.
  • Liquid nitrogen, oxygen depletion calculations, to inform the requirements for gas detection
  • plug and play swagelok gas design.
  • Sanitary Plumbing, Sitewide Drainage, Radioactive Drainage, Laboratory Drainage.
  • Domestic water services, Laboratory water services, Treated Water services, Boiler feed water, Cooling tower make up water, Domestic Sanitary plumbing.
  • Fire suppression protection systems
  • Experience in the commissioning of these services and problem-solving of installed systems ensuring full operation and function prior to handover.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in any additional language(s) would be desirable but is not essential.

   Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proven experience working in a Public Health Engineering position for 3+ years (essential), preferably within the construction/design sector.
  • UK design experience necessary with knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, ISO and EN Standards Familiarity with UK & EU regulations.
  • Excellent communicator, able to present complex information in a way that generates understanding.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Bluebeam/Revu and Excel. Experience with Revit would be desirable.
  • Excellent organisation skills, comfortable juggling multiple projects and priorities in a busy and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines while under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to clearly articulate business requests with all levels of the business.

They help landlords and property managers map risk, plan for, and transition portfolios of buildings to net-zero carbon as cost-effectively as possible. They adopt a unique approach that combines building services engineering with dynamic simulation modelling, energy engineering, and their own bespoke data analysis software.  They work with global investment funds and property companies and support the management of over 1 million m2 of predominantly commercial real estate assets and employ more than 20 staff.  Their head office is in the West Midlands but many of the team work 100% remotely and are required to travel across the UK to visit buildings. Travel to head office including an overnight stay to attend team meetings is required once every two months.  Role:  They are looking to appoint a Project Engineer to lead on the management of live projects through a broad range of MEP disciplines.   The type of projects will include refurbishment/fit out, MEP plant installations (including PV and EV) and some new build. This is a key role in our continuing growth strategy. As such it will require someone confident enough to contribute to our business plans for growth, recruitment processes and help manage clients.  There will be progression opportunities for the successful applicant.  Responsibilities: 

  • Understanding and accurately interpreting customer requirements. 
  • Engaging with clients and in business development discussions for project team. 
  • Undertaking survey works as well as providing input into feasibility reports and business cases. 
  • Helping to develop engineering designs to achieve client aspirations in respect of sustainability and energy management targets. 

  • Tender evaluations. 
  • Outlining project specifications. 
  • CDM co-ordination and mobilisation of projects from pre-construction through to hand over. 
  • Assisting in the delivery of all aspects of M&E services for both refurbishments and new installation projects. This includes keeping to a programme, budget, and specification to include commissioning and post occupancy evaluation processes. 
  • Completing inspections and final sign-off/handovers to ensure the transition of completed projects into 'business as usual'. This includes contributing to regular evaluation sessions. 

  Essential skills: 

  • Engineering degree and a minimum of 3 years of engineering experience or a non-cognate graduate with a minimum of 3-5 years of engineering experience and recognised engineering accreditations (such as CIBSE LCC/LCEA etc.) 
  • Membership of CIBSE, IMechE or IET 
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge 
  • AutoCAD M&E 
  • An understanding of UK construction contracts and processes 
  • An aspiration to deliver engineering excellence with a focus on sustainability within design. 

  Desirable skills: 

  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering and/or public health services 
  • Understanding of BIM processes including REVIT, COBIE and IES dynamic simulation modelling.
