  Role:  The Senior Electrical Engineer will excel in engineering design and be comfortable leading projects from inception to completion, working with minimal supervision. They will also assist in planning and managing an appropriate resource to deliver projects. They will prepare conceptual designs of HV and LV electrical systems, lighting, fire alarms etc and be responsible for equipment selection and calculations and assist with the preparation of the client brief. The role also requires that they are confident giving technical presentations to the professional team as well as managing site coordination meetings with contractors. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work across multiple projects at any one time, and will prioritise work to ensure timely delivery. In addition, the Senior Electrical Engineer will work with the directors to contribute to the development of improved standards and procedures within the company.   Responsibilities: Design

  • Design safe, economical and reliable electrical systems to meet the contractual scope of work and comply with the applicable standards and regulations.
  • Develop the preparation of clear and concise drawings, specifications and product schedules to define electrical systems.
  • Coordinate electrical design with other disciplines (e.g. architectural, structural, mechanical & public health) to minimise conflicts and avoid costly revisions.
  • Check tender submissions, drawings and technical submittals to ensure quality of products and equipment are in accordance with design.
  • Undertake site visits and monitor progress against the design.
  • Assist subcontractors to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications and resolve problems during construction.

  Management

  • Work well within the team and manages medium-sized projects internally and externally in respect of deliverables, resources and financials.
  • Assist with the review of appointment documents and scopes of service.
  • Set targets and monitor workload against deliverables.
  • Report any feedback or issues concerning either projects or team to the directors.
  • Demonstrate a good level of oral and written communication (in particular well developed report writing skills) setting the highest standards of communication both internally and externally.
  • Ensure compliance with the companys Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Build relationships and contacts with potential sources of new work, maintain existing relationships.
  • Confidently assist with the delivery of presentations and pitches.

  Health & Safety

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the CDM Regulations, specifically the Designers requirements.
  • Ensure completion of all risk assessment documentation in a timely manner.
  • Report all accidents/incidents or near misses.
  • Ensure adherence to all H&S requirements at all times.
  • Use and maintain appropriate PPE.
  • Demonstrate leadership in all aspects of Health & Safety.

  Training & HR Management

  • Coordinate junior staff internally, providing mentoring and leadership and help to identify opportunities for junior staff to develop.
  • Provide constructive feedback to junior staff.
  • Promote team morale and encourage cooperation, collaboration and team working;

  Technical

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of BSRIA BG6 and RIBA stages, Part L, BREEAM and renewable technologies.
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of other MEP engineering disciplines, other than your own, sufficient to understand their impact in the overall design, and converse at a high level.
  • Ensure proficiency in the use of the following systems; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Trimble (formerly Amtech) or Cymap, DIALux or similar.
  • Develop ability to use AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Attained or working towards Chartered status.
  • Undertake Continual Professional Development by reading technical journals, attending relevant IEE/CIBSE technical seminars from time to time and attending in house seminars aimed at increasing technical and operational knowledge.

  Financial

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project costing principles and control changes during project development.
  • Utilise strong financial management skills to negotiate additional fees with the client that may be due.
  • Forecast resourcing via Union Square management database.
  • Assist with preparation of fee proposals.
  • Maintain required level of utilisation and complete timesheet on a weekly basis.
  • Assist directors and principals to ensure that projects are invoiced promptly, and assist with debt collection.

  Project Interface

  • Represent the company at design team and client meetings with confidence.
  • Liaise with clients and othersto obtain technical and operational information relating to the projects.
  • Maintain a project overview at all times, able to provide updates on project status to client and others whenever required.

They require an experienced Public Health Project Engineer to join their multidisciplinary Building Services design team in Maidenhead. You will be required to support the delivery of a wide variety of projects for several key clients covering a range of activities from project feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for development of practical public health design solutions across a wide variety of challenging and prestigious projects;
  • Close liaison with project teams to produce coherent and coordinated information;
  • Representing the organisation with clients, design teams, and contractors;
  • Investigating new and emerging technologies and applying practically;
  • Provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist in mentoring and development of others;

  Professional Membership and Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop technical design schematics and layout drawings, supported by engineering calculations;
  • Experience of confidently managing production of design information in both 2D and 3D environments;
  • Ideally an excellent working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD;
  • Able to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in plain English;
  • Ability to work on own initiative and seek assistance when required;
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales are met;

  The Company: The Company was founded in 1983 in South Africa. The company is very strong in leisure, education, commercial, retail and residential sectors of the market. The Company employs circa 20 employees, and although a relatively small Company punches well above its weight in terms of projects undertaken. Project values have varied from £4million to £200million in terms of construction value. They have won national and international awards for some of its projects and has established itself as a leader in low carbon and renewable technologies and low energy buildings. The type of work is varied; for instance they have written the technical guidance for Sport England wet and dry sports centres and partnered with a number of local authorities and main contractors. The design work varies from developing concept designs to Stage 3 for planning purposes to fully detailed design, contract and construction drawings. The candidate will report directly to the Director. The candidate joins the company in the midst of exciting times, with a strong order book and growth opportunities. The candidate will be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills and ultimately manage their own projects, which will include managing a team of engineers, building physicist and technicians. Qualifications and experience:

  • British citizen or in possession of the right to work in the UK
  • Degree qualified in electrical engineering
  • From 2 years’ experience to senior engineer working as electrical (building services) design engineer (preferably in in the UK)
  • Good design skills
  • Preferential but not essential experience:
    • Working knowledge of wiring regulations BS 7671

  Job Description: The engineer will be required to deal with projects predominantly in the South-East from concept/feasibility stage, through design and construction to commissioning and handover under the guidance of a director. Skills that will be developed include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lighting calculations

  • Detail development of concept designs to include equipment selection and specification etc
