  My client is an MEP design consultancy looking to add an Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to their busy team of 15 engineers. They provide mechanical and electrical engineering services to a wide range of clients and market sectors including Healthcare & Education.   • A capacity to sketch and develop designs and design briefs dictated by either clients or engineering managers.
  • Having full responsibility for technical and financial decisions taken. These include choice of system, organisation of works, and development of projects, with the ability to comply with time restrictions and limits.
  • Undertake surveys of a building and prepare reports on the mechanical aspects, including capability and compliance with Codes of Practice and Regulations and energy evaluation.
  • Have an understanding of the basic physics and design parameters associated with other disciplines.
  • Have a full and detailed understanding of the physics and design parameters on all aspects of mechanical works, and be able to implement the designs, including energy assessment.
  • Be computer literate and able to assist in the preparation of drawings on CAD and ability to translate requirements to CAD technicians.
  • Be competent in the exercise of independent technical judgement and application of engineering principles, including the application of Standards, Codes of Practice and Regulations.
  • Maintain a proactive attitude to maintaining output to programme and time management
  • Knowledge of British standards, building regulations documents, etc.
  • Able to work without supervision

   Requirements:

  • A degree qualification - mechanical or building services (Chartered or working towards). An HNC or HND with suitable design experience will also be considered.
  • Client interaction skills.
  • Software design ideally including Microsoft Office, Hevacomp, AutoCAD
  • Flexible working is offered with 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home

You will be part of a team working on a wide variety of small and large schemes including healthcare, education, leisure, retail, commercial, and energy conservation.  Duties are varied but include the following:

  • Attending design and site meetings.
  • Managing workload.
  • Performing job manager responsibilities.
  • Producing accurate documents including specifications, calculations, condition reports, etc.

  To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

  • A degree in Building Services Engineering.
  • Professional qualification with CIBSE or MIET (or be working towards).
  • Good working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, Clash Detection, and Amtech.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role with strong project management skills.
  • The ability to manage a variety of projects meeting varying deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to work alongside architects and contractors to solve problems and come up with innovative solutions.

• Senior Mechanical Engineer

As their business grows and continues to develop, they are looking to reinforce the Building Services team with the appointment of an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer in their Manchester office. This role will suit an experienced mechanical engineer who is looking to develop and progress in an environment where your efforts and talent are recognised. What you'll be doing: In this role you will produce detailed design calculations and sketches in accordance with the project requirements and as such a sound knowledge of technical engineering design relevant to the role is required - liaising with both Senior Engineers and Engineering Technicians regarding design and drawing as part of this dynamic team that believes in absolute delivery. Work will typically be undertaken in conjunction with a Mechanical Associate assisting in the survey, design, specification, and contract administration process of the projects. The work will be a mixture of survey, design work, office-based project administration, and site attendances.

  • Carrying out detailed Mechanical Building Services Design Engineering on new build and refurbishment construction projects.
  • Assist senior staff in feasibility studies, concept, and scheme design stages.
  • Attend design team meetings alongside other staff members.
  • Inspect and report on mechanical building services systems.
  • Undertake Mechanical design work consisting of surveys, design, drawings, and specifications for projects. Work in conjunction with other design team members as required as part of an overall project team. Ensure the design and maintenance of building systems meet legislative and health and safety requirements.
  • Utilise Building Services software for calculations.
  • Produce marked-up drawings for CAD by others or direct CAD design drawings for issue.
  • Select and specify products, equipment, and installation standards relating to Mechanical services suitable for the costing and installation by Contractors.
  • Attend project design meetings, technical meetings, value engineering workshops, and risk workshops as required by the project in conjunction with more senior staff.

  Who we're looking for: To be successful in this role you will most likely have a degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and experience commensurate with the underpinning and knowledge requirements for Incorporated Engineer aligned to either IMechE or CIBSE requirements. Ability to design principle mechanical systems taken from a concept level of design through to detailed design (BSRIA BG6 Stage 4A) including:

  • Ventilation design
  • Chilled water
  • Comfort Cooling design
  • Domestic hot and cold water systems / Public Health
  • Heating systems
  • Above Ground drainage
  • HVAC control principles
  • Use of  Hevacomp / IES or equivalent
  • Ability to view and interpret drawings in AutoCAD
  • Understanding of Building Regulations Part L compliance associated with the systems above
  • Use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
