The successful candidate will be responsible, under the leadership of the Associate Director/Senior Engineer, for the internal day-to-day management of small to medium-scale projects and individual engineering task(s) for numerous schemes for client’s cross sector. This will include the creation, development of, and finalising engineering design solutions for electrical services, working with other team members and project teams together with direct liaison with the client and other design team professionals. The role will involve: 

    • Complete survey work and site inspections.
    • Undertake design calculations using various methods, from hand calculations to software-based modelling.
    • Prepare drawn information.
    • Write technical specifications.
    • Write technical reports.
    • Exhibit active project risk management.
    • Peer review and check design information prepared by others.
    • Manage a project-specific team of engineers.
    • Manage their own workload to meet defined targets and deadlines.
    • Allocate and manage project-specific workload of Graduates, Project Engineers, and Admin staff.
    • Manage commercial aspects of projects they are working on including responsibility for the management of project income and costs.
    • Manage client relationships on specific projects.
    • Look for additional opportunities within existing and new client relationships.
    • Take responsibility for their own professional and personal development.
    • Input and some responsibility for professional and personal development of team members, staff Performance and Development Reviews and mentoring of staff.
    In order to be considered for this role you will have:
    • Minimum 3 years of building services consultancy design experience.
    • A degree qualification - Electrical or building services (Chartered or working towards). An HNC or HND with suitable design experience will also be considered.
    • Client interaction skills.
    • Software design ideally including Microsoft Office, Amtech, Dialux and Autodesk Revit MEP.
    • Knowledge of British standards, building regulations documents, etc.
    • Professional membership (CIBSE, IET, IMechE).

What you'll be doing: In this role you will produce detailed design calculations and sketches in accordance with the project requirements and as such a sound knowledge of technical engineering design relevant to the role is required - liaising with both Senior Engineers and Engineering Technicians regarding design and drawing as part of this dynamic team that believes in absolute delivery. Work will typically be undertaken in conjunction with a Mechanical Associate assisting in the survey, design, specification, and contract administration process of the projects. The work will be a mixture of survey, design work, office-based project administration, and site attendances.

    • Carrying out detailed Mechanical Building Services Design Engineering on new build and refurbishment construction projects.
    • Assist senior staff in feasibility studies, concept, and scheme design stages.
    • Attend design team meetings alongside other staff members.
    • Inspect and report on mechanical building services systems.
    • Undertake Mechanical design work consisting of surveys, design, drawings, and specifications for projects. Work in conjunction with other design team members as required as part of an overall project team. Ensure the design and maintenance of building systems meet legislative and health and safety requirements.
    • Utilise Building Services software for calculations.
    • Produce marked-up drawings for CAD by others or direct CAD design drawings for issue.
    • Select and specify products, equipment, and installation standards relating to Mechanical services suitable for the costing and installation by Contractors.
    • Attend project design meetings, technical meetings, value engineering workshops, and risk workshops as required by the project in conjunction with more senior staff.
    Who we're looking for: To be successful in this role you will most likely have a degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and experience commensurate with the underpinning and knowledge requirements for Incorporated Engineer aligned to either IMechE or CIBSE requirements. Ability to design principle mechanical systems taken from a concept level of design through to detailed design (BSRIA BG6 Stage 4A) including:
    • Ventilation design
    • Chilled water
    • Comfort Cooling design
    • Domestic hot and cold water systems / Public Health
    • Heating systems
    • Above Ground drainage
    • HVAC control principles
    • Use of  Hevacomp / IES or equivalent
    • Ability to view and interpret drawings in AutoCAD
    • Understanding of Building Regulations Part L compliance associated with the systems above
    • Use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (on a contract basis) to join their busy team in Cambridgeshire for a minimum of three months. The role will involve:

    • Acting as project leader on selected projects
    • Working as part of a larger team on certain projects.

    • Raising/promoting the level of technical excellence relating to mechanical engineering within the team.
